Only 150 metres away from the hotel is Schalkenmehren's home weaving museum (www.heimweberei-museum.de) with its special textile museum, the only one of its kind in the Palatinate, built on the site of a cottage weaving tradition that goes back many decades in Schalkenmehren, with its three lakes.
Nearby is also one of the last bell foundries, as well as geological paths, the Maarmuseum in Manderscheid, the volcano museum in Daun or the lava museum in Strohn, to bring the Earth and its history to life.
How about cycling along the new Maare-Mosel cycle track as far as Bernkastel-Kues and then back on the cycle bus? Or exciting excursions to Trier, Germany's oldest city, to Luxemburg or to the Mosel, combined with wine sampling. Everything is possible.
